Why a Blog?
So what is a blog? It is a website where entries are written in a chronological order and displayed in a reverse order -i.e. last first. Blogging has become a phenomenon and is now a huge part of the internet with 100's of million blogs posted worldwide. If you want to understand more about blogs, here is a video explaining them further.
So why do jobs and blogs work so well together then? Well there are three main reasons:
- Search engine optimisation (SEO). Search engines love blogs. The absolutely thrive on regular fresh content, with good keywords and links on the site. Very quickly blogs can rise up the rankings within Google, Yahoo and MSN.
- Blogs are what your prospective employees are reading at home. The primary future employees for your business are from the X & Y generations Generation X-ers defined as being born between 1965 to 1979, and aged between 28-42 and Generation Y-ers defined as being born between 1980 and 1984, and aged between 13-27. They have been brought up on the internet and technology so they are comfortable reading them, they participate in commenting on them and they regularly refer them around friends. It is true web 2.0 at its very best.
- Blogs can be syndicated through RSS. Visitors (jobseekers) can 'subscribe' to your blog and get regular updates of new jobs delivered to their desktop, newsreader, mobile phone or PDA via RSS (Real Simple Syndication). The best thing? It is free.
So with regular postings on your pages, both with jobs and other relevant information about your company, you will soon start to see regular traffic (job seekers) coming to your site organically. If you then add some pay per click advertising (PPC) via Google then you will be driving further jobseekers to your site. So this should then start to produce candidates applying to your jobs directly, which is fantastic as this will bring down costs even further.
